Latest Battery Energy Storage News from India

  1. 13 GWh battery storage tender : India will call bids for the largest global tender for a 13 gigawatt-hours (GWh) grid-scale battery storage system in Ladakh in what would be a major leap in the country’s efforts to transition towards green energy.
  2. Round-the-clock (RTC) renewable power: ReNew Power will invest close to $1.2 billion in development of a 1.3 Gw of hybrid renewable energy (RE) project, which will provide round-the-clock (RTC) renewable power supply, a first for the country. The company won the project in May 2020 in a tender issued by central agency Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) by quoting a tariff of Rs 2.9 per unit.
  3. Amara Raja Batteries plans to invest about USD one billion in the next five to seven years towards capex to be spent for both organic and inorganic growth, a senior official of the company said on Monday.
  4. Dendrite-free zinc-iron redox flow battery: Researchers from the P.G. and Research Department of Chemistry at Christ College in Kerala, India, have claimed to have developed a dendrite-free zinc-iron redox flow battery. The paper, titled A Dendrite Free Zn-Fe Hybrid Redox Flow Battery for Renewable Energy Storage”, was published in the Energy Storage journal.
  5. 800 GW storage in India: The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has published a report, “Energy Storage in South Asia: Understanding the Role of Grid-Connected Energy Storage in South Asia’s Power Sector Transformation.” According to report, capacity of storage technologies in India reaches between 180 GW and 800 GW, representing between 10% and 25% of total installed power capacity by 2050. The energy capacity of storage reaches between 750 GWh and 4,900 GWh by 2050.
  6. Battrixx announced its association with WardWizard Innovations and Mobility and said it has received its single largest order to supply 8000 battery packs for Joy E-Bike (electric two-wheelers) produced by WardWizard.
  7. Exide Industries: The country’s largest lead acid battery maker, Exide Industries Ltd, on Tuesday said it is evaluating foray into manufacturing Advance Cell Chemistry batteries, commonly referred to as lithium-ion batteries.
  8. Giga Battery factory in Chennai: Leading automotive electrical components manufacturer Lucas TVS and 24M Technologies, developer of next generation lithium-ion battery technologies, announced the signing of a license and services agreement to construct one of the first giga factories in India using 24M’s SemiSolidTM platform technology. The first plant will be set up in Thervoy Kandigai, Gummudipundi near Chennai
