Asim Arun – IPS applies for VRS and joins BJP

A 1994-batch IPS officer, who previously served as the chief of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad, Asim Arun (51) on Saturday announced that he had applied for voluntary retirement (VRS) and plunged into politics with the BJP. The Commissioner of Kanpur police (rank ADG) said he was “proud” that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath considered him fit for the membership of the BJP. Punjab Government has appointed 1987 batch IPS officer Viresh Kumar Bhawra as the new DGP

The Punjab Government has appointed 1987 batch IPS officer Viresh Kumar Bhawra as the new DGP of Punjab. Mr. Bhawra will replace Mr. Chattopadhyay who was holding additional charge of the post. The UPSC had recently sent a panel of three officials to appoint the DGP, including Dinkar Gupta, VK Bhawra and Prabodh Kumar. The Code of Conduct for Elections is also likely to be enacted today, so the Punjab Government has made this major appointment before the Code of Conduct came into force. Punjabi Tribune

Show cause notice to acting Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay

The Union Home Ministry has issued a show cause notice to acting Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay over security breaches in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Center has asked him to reply by 5 pm today as to why action should not be taken against him under the All India Service Rules due to security breaches. The notice also states that they have not complied with their legal obligations under the Special Protection Group Act.
